Your Father Now
Your father now
is far enough away. He is
old and picks lilies
in an endless field,
and after each plucked flower
he apologizes: “I didn’t know,
I didn’t know this too would hurt.”
No, he doesn’t pick lilies,
but rather poppies. And they’re spilling
over his fingers.
